DAILY HEADLINE:
OH CANADA, LET ME IN - BUT WAIT!!!
The State Department has revoked a record-breaking 85,000 visas as the Trump administration ramps up scrutiny on visitors to the United States.
Of the revoked visas, more than 8,000 were students — more than double the number in 2024.
Some of the reasons for the revoked visas include DUIs, assaults, and theft, which together account for almost half of the revocations in the past year.
But wait! Did You Know?
I asked Grok
“Is it true that you cannot visit Canada if you were convicted of a DUI?”
No, it's not true that you absolutely cannot visit Canada with a DUI conviction—but a DUI (or equivalent impaired driving offense) typically makes you criminally inadmissible, meaning you can be denied entry at the border without advance approval. Canada treats DUI convictions as serious criminality under its immigration laws, especially since changes in December 2018 that increased maximum penalties, applying to both Canadian and foreign convictions (including U.S. misdemeanors).
But, But… How many people a year in the USA are convicted for DUI?
Based on the most recent available data (as of 2025), approximately 500,000 to 600,000 people are convicted of DUI (driving under the influence, also known as DWI or impaired driving) each year in the United States. This estimate accounts for the fact that not all arrests lead to convictions—national conviction rates for DUI cases hover around 59–70%, depending on the jurisdiction and year.
Which pretty much means that unless you adhere to the rehabilitative policies of Canada, you are likely going to be turned away at the door. Remember those of you who clutch your pearls at the revocation of US Visa’s
DAILY COMMENTARY:
WHY MONETARY INFLATION MATTERS MORE
Government deficit spending increases the money supply.
Cheap borrowing and stimulus flood the economy with dollars.
Asset prices (housing, stocks) rise long before food and gas do.
Households feel only the consumer inflation, not the policy chain that caused it.
FEATURE OF THE DAY:
THE WEATHER’D VIEW — CAR KEYS DAY
The Forgotten Filth
Keys touch gas pumps, drive-thru counters, shopping carts, public bathrooms, and every surface in between.
Then you toss them on your kitchen table without a second thought.
“Car keys are the handshake between your clean home and the dirty outside world.”
“Your car keys know more about your life than your therapist — and they look worse for the wear.”
