Santa Barbara novelist Jane Hulse returns to Newsmakers for a conversation about her just-out second book, “Outcasts of Essex,” a work that carries on the saga of Sarah Bennett, an independent-minded teenager navigating the personal and political cross-currents of Revolutionary War Era New Hampshire, introduced in her first book of historical fiction, “Prisoner of Wallabout Bay.” Hulse now is writing a third volume in the series, and her books not only showcase the author’s elegant writing style, but also reflect her deep knowledge and lifelong appreciation for the history of the New England small towns where she was born and raised.
