Today’s quote is from Abigail Van Buren (Dear Abby), and it is, “Wisdom doesn’t automatically come with old age. Nothing does — except wrinkles. It’s true some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place.”

Although it should be a natural progression of an aging person, there are many old people, who are not wise. Even the wisest person to ever live, King Solomon realized that age does not equate to wisdom in Ecclesiastes 4:13, “It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice.”

As Dear Abby wisely observes, old age does bring on wrinkles, and there is really no way to prevent them. But it certainly does not guarantee wisdom. Another astute observation is wine which improves with age, but only if it started out with grapes that are of superior quality. In the same manner, as a person ages, they will only become wise and have integrity if that is part of the very fabric of their life at their core during their youth.
