In this episode, host and Executive Director Phillip Clark discusses the upcoming 2024 Youth Summit with Autumn Hightower, a team member of Just Say Something. Autumn brings a wealth of experience and expertise in engaging high school students in meaningful conversations about important topics such as stereotypes, peer pressure, and substance abuse. She is very committed to empowering young people and providing them with the resources they need to make informed decisions.
Phillip and Autumn discuss The Youth Summit, which was put on hold due to COVID-19, and how it is making a comeback this year with the theme "Why Does It Matter?" Autumn shares her excitement about the event and explains that the summit will focus on having conversations about stereotypes, peer pressure, substance abuse, and other relevant topics. As Autumn explains, "Why does it matter that we talk about stereotypes? Why does it matter that we talk about peer pressure when it comes to drugs, alcohol, substance abuse, all those type of things?" The summit aims to engage high school students in meaningful discussions and provide them with resources to navigate these issues.
Autumn also provides details about the event, including the dates, location, and the inclusion of a resource fair. She tells Phillip, “It is going to be June 20 to the 21st. So, it's going to be a day and a half. So, it's going to be one full day, which will be June 20, and then on the 21st, it's going to take place from about 08:00 a.m. until about 12:00 p.m. She emphasizes that the summit is no charge for high school students in Greenville County and encourages interested individuals to stay updated through the organization's social media and website.
