Scripture Reading:

Jeremiah 17:5-8 (NKJV) – Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who

trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the

LORD. 6 For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when

good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a

salt land which is not inhabited. 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the

LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted

by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear

when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the

year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

1. You need to realize a birthright is tied to your place in your

natural FAMILY, while blessings are tied to the FAVOR of GOD upon

your life.

Genesis 25:26-34 (NKJV) – Afterward his brother came out, and his hand

took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty

years old when she bore them. [27] So the boys grew. And Esau was a

skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in

tents. [28] And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah

loved Jacob. [29] Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the

field, and he was weary. [30] And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with

that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

[31] But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” [32] And Esau

said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” [33] Then

Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his

birthright to Jacob. [34] And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils;

then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his

birthright.

JACOB (Jay’cob) –

Birthright – bekowrah,

The birthright gave the person who had it:

A. the JUDICIAL authority of the father.

Genesis 49:3 (KJV) – Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the

beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of

power:

B. a DOUBLE portion of the paternal inheritance

Deut. 21:17 (NKJV) – But he shall acknowledge the son of the unloved wife

as the firstborn by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is

the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

C. the SPIRITUAL authority as the priest in the family (Numbers 8:17-19)

Numbers 8:17-19 (NASB-U) – “For every firstborn among the sons of

Israel is Mine, among the men and among the animals; on the day that I

struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for

Myself. [18] “But I have taken the Levites instead of every firstborn among

the sons of Israel. [19] “I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to

his sons from among the sons of Israel, to perform the service of the

sons of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement on behalf of

the sons of Israel, so that there will be no plague among the sons of Israel

by their coming near to the sanctuary.”

Genesis 25:34 (NKJV) – And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils;

then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his

birthright.
