7) Live Twitter Questions
Yesterday, Deadline revealed that the Gambit movie spin-off in the X-Men universe encountered even more trouble when Gore Verbinski, the third director in as many years, left the project citing scheduling conflicts. On the heels of the announcement, THR reports that Fox has shifted their release schedule for their upcoming X-Men movies.
The Directors Guild of America announced their nominations for the feature film category. The DGA is a pretty heavy precursor for the Oscar nominations, so the films and filmmakers recognized here will certainly get a boost in Oscar voting. And the nominees are: Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water / Greta Gerwig – Lady Bird / Jordan Peele – Get Out / Martin McDonagh – Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri / Christopher Nolan – Dunkirk.
AGREE/DISAGREE
Focus Features has released the first trailer for Tully starring Charlize Theron. Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody, the story focuses on an overworked mother who is gifted a night nanny, Tully, played by Mackenzie Davis.
While Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley’s feature debut Pale Blue Dot suffered a setback last year when Reese Witherspoon vacated the lead role, a switcheroo is underway to keep things on track. Variety reports that Oscar-winner Natalie Portman is now in talks to take over the part.
Ahead of the film’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival, Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for the upcoming thriller Beirut. Written by Bourne Trilogy scribe Tony Gilroy and directed by The Machinist helmer Brad Anderson, the film takes place in 1982 and stars Jon Hamm as a U.S. diplomat and expert negotiator who is tasked by the CIA to negotiate for the life of a friend he left behind.
James Franco: Will allegations hurt his Oscar chances? Ellis will lead the panel in a discussion about whether these new allegations against James Franco will hurt his Oscar chances for The Disaster Artist.
