LOOPHOLE CLOSING CONSULTATION OPENS
A consultation, with suggestions on closing loopholes on the use of mobile phones whilst driving, has been announced. Whilst these are a welcome step, some are asking if the Government is really serious about safety as there are no proposals to ban hands-free mobile phone calls, even though there is a stack of scientific evidence that proves how impaired a driver becomes. COLLABORATIVE POTHOLE MAP CREATED
The Government, collaborating with the likes of Uber, Tesco, Deliveroo and Ocaado, will create a map of the UK’s roads, allowing highway departments to plan their works and take advantage of the fund set aside for mending the epidemic of potholes on our roads. GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S ‘MISSING LINK’ ROAD CONSULTATION RESULTS
Following a public consultation, the ‘missing link’ road, that would join the M5 and M4 up, updated plans have been released for further scrutiny. After more than 2000 people contributed last time, Highways England was able to modify their plans to be less disruptive to the environment, repurpose the existing road and benefit local communities. LONDON’S CONGESTION CHARGE MAY INCREASE IN SIZE
Transport for London is once again asking the Government for financial aid, apparently, one of the conditions is to increase the size of the Congestion Charge, as well as remove reductions in cost to some. When we first covered the changes to the Congestion Charge, earlier in the year, we were told it was the Government demanding such change, which turned out to be false. TFL DATA PROJECT
Transport for London has begun a data project to map all dockless hire bicycles and e-bikes. This will help TfL understand traffic flows and patterns, as well as hot spots for poor bike storage. To read more, click The Register article here.
NOISE CAMERAS DEPLOYED IN WEST LONDON
In a bid to stamp out the roads of West London being turned into ‘race tracks’, noise cameras have been installed, with a trigger limit of 75dB. Some have already been caught exceeding this level. To read more, click the Motoring Research article here.
BMW RECALLS ALL 2020 BUILT PHEVS
