Lord Chaitanya said, “Come here, birth after birth you are a beggar and birth after birth, I take the remnants of what you beg. In your previous birth you were Sudama Vipra and you came to Dwarka and I stole the chipped rice from your bag.” And then Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “I always long to taste the remnants in your bag” and then Lord Chaitanya reached his hands into the old, tattered bag of Shuklambar Brahmachari and started eating the rice. Now, what kind of rice do people give beggars? Not first-class basmati rice! You give the beggars the worst thing in your house, that broken pieces of the bottom of the pot of the barrel. So, it was all broken, cheap, low-grade rice and Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu started eating it, handful after handful and Shuklambar Brahmachari started to cry, “Now I am finished, how can you eat this? How can you take this my Lord? These pieces of rice are broken and old. They are not fit for you.” Chaitanya Mahaprabhu handful after handful with tears of love and ecstasy, he is eating that rice. He said, “I will not accept even the most sumptuous, delicious preparations from someone who has no devotion. But because of your devotion this rice is sweeter and more fulfilling than nectar itself. I only accept what is offered by my devotees with devotion. I have no taste for anything else” and when the devotees saw this, they all began to cry in ecstatic love to see the Lord’s mercy upon his devotee, and they all began to dance and loudly chant the holy names, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
