Today countries all over the world, their leaders are materialistic, they are hypocritical and they have cheating propensities and they tell all kinds of lies just to get into office and they got all kind of false promises, then the people in general become like that. They become immoral, they become cheaters and now, what do we have is, as Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakura explains, we have a world of the cheaters and the cheated. If leading people in society become Krishna conscious their exemplary behavior will influence everyone’s life and actually everyone has some sphere in which they are a leader. Husband is the king of the family, and the wife is the queen of the family and of the two, they both have great powers and the children are the subjects. If the husband and the wife are Krishna conscious, naturally the children will be imbibed with the spirit of devotion. Amongst the brahmacharis, if the brahmacharis are exemplary in the behavior, then they become leaders. Not only the other brahmacharis try to emulate that spirit of renunciation, simplicity, honesty, good sadhana and purity but also the grihastha’s will see, ‘Oh these are sadhus, these are leaders, let me get inspiration from them, let me get shelter from their example.’ So, we should all be aspiring to be leaders by our example.
