Story of the dinning room chairs, "we know that we made it; God has blessed us."

What does it mean to be a city on the hill, Matt 5:16-17. We don't reflect our own light but the light of Jesus. Communal inwardness & communal outwardness: God is calling us to grow together. Salt & light symbolizes that this should be everyone's experience. Every Jewish household would use salt & light. The light came from the houses, not the city its self. Homes were one room which would be the bedroom. (How did they have such big families?) The roof was the family room. Herodian lamps were the light. The light on the hill was only as bright as the light radiating from each home collectively. A city on a hill is the sum of all its lights. Everyone had to light a lamp for the city to shine. God is asking for all of us to make our light shine brighter.

The benefit to us is that we are more like Jesus; and God's promos is we will have the best of the best. He will change our world in ways that we can't even imagine. It starts by working together.
