"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them…" Matthew 5:17. Reading through the scriptures over a years, had a dramatic impact on my life. You know you are in a rut when you are in the same seat as you were in last week. Scriptures are the great change catalyst that we know. Proverbs 3:1-4 "Do not forget my teaching..."
Fulfill/Abolish/Accomplish (Matthew 5:17-18) Difficult to workout, but simple to understand. Fulfill is to fill something that is empty. Abolish is to do away with or discard. Accomplish is to bring it into reality; being. Jesus didn't come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it so that the Law could be accomplished. The Law was empty before Jesus lived it out.
Relax (Matthew 5:19) To untie something, like untie the rope. The real trap is that we relax the law. The emphasis is on doing, not teaching.
A Greater Righteousness (Matthew 5:20) That proceeds the Scribes and Pharisees not a greater in degree, but a greater in time. The greatest law is to Love God and our neighbors. We fulfill the law through loving obedience. Speaking the truth in love.
A Reward (Proverbs 3:1-4) Let your heart keep my commandments, flooded by the Love of God. Let us become people who begin to walk in the love of God.
