Johnathan Edwards stated "task of every generation is to discover the direction the Lord is moving and move in that same direction, in loving obedience". The direction we want to go most likely is not the direction He wants us to go. Plant ourselves in the eternal living Word; being ground in the word and in Christ. Psalm 32, My hiding place...proclaiming shouts of deliverance directed out of slavery into the promise land. God is looking at us.
Prophecy is part of the early church. Ephesians 2:19-20 We are no longer aliens... build on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. Prophecy doesn't create anything new or adds to God's stated position; but based on the foundation of the apostles' and prophet's teaching. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 Do not despises prophecies, but test the spirit. Seek after prophecy. 1 Cor 14: The one who prophecies up-builds, encourages, and consuls; does not point our sins. God's word is what is true.
What do you do with prophetic words: 1) Habakkuk 2:2-3: write the vision down so that you may run with it. If it is not written down you don't know where you don't know where you are going. 2) Hold it close to your heart to draw you closer to God. 3) Ask for discernment, as to what it means. It doesn't mean what you think it means. Ephesian 1 Pray for a spirit of wisdom and revelation. God wants to give us a whole lot more of what we don't have, transferring us to a different way of living. 4) Test everything. Just because someone prophesies to you, doesn't mean that it will be. Our job is to test the words said over us 5) Resist the temptation to make the prophecy to happen or helping it along; it will happen by grace, not by works. 6) Prophetic words are signs along the road the God is leading you. All the roads lead to Jesus. How do I become more like Jesus, so the vision of my life becomes more like Jesus.
