Yes, No, Maybe (YNM) - We live in the fishbowl where the water is YNM. But we need a different way of living besides YNM. How often does someone says they will do something but we are not sure what their answer really meant? Matt 5: You shall not swear falsely, but perform to the Lord what you have sworn. It may have been a persons intent, but they didn't mean it.
Vicious Cycle: "But I say to , Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem..." Everything we say should be fulfill, then we do not have to take a vow and be part of the YNM crowed. God is not a YNM God. Scratch off the Maybes; We are to be Yes/No people.
In order to be a Yes/No person, I must deal with my personal conflicts: Fear of conflict; Fear of not being right; Fear of rejection or abandonment; Fear of authority; and Fear of commitment. It's not easy, but we are to be like God, because he is perfect, good and holy. What does it mean to be a City on a Hill. God wants us to deal with our personal baggage; to live Yes or No lives. All of God's promises are Yes and Amen.
