Who can name the fruits of the Spirit in order?

What does “Fruit of the Spirit” Mean?
- God’s attributes as shown in His followers
- Actions that God has taken toward us
- The evidence of God’s work in someone’s life

John 15:1-5 - Jesus Speaks of the Fruit
- What is “abiding in Christ”?
- Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but
Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the
Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
- “Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit.
- Christ's followers will bear much fruit
- Followers of Christ - be encouraged that Christ does and will work in you
- Non-Believers (or not-sure) - now is the time to repent and surrender to
Christ.

Love
● The GOAT of all fruits (I Corinthians 13)
● All fruits after this are in light of love.
● The specific greek word used in Galatians 5:22 is “Agape” (total, sacrificial
love)
● Love is complete commitment to something or someone. It is an act of the
will.

Joy
● Celebration and praise of our God and Saviour.
● Transcends circumstance.
● It is our strength (Neh 8:10)
● John 15:11 says that joy belongs to Christ and he desires for our joy to be full.

Peace
● Contentment and completeness in Christ.
● John 14:27 - Peace comes from Christ
● Phil 4:6-7 Inward peace. passes understanding.
● Rom 12:18 Outward peace as a testimony of God’s work in us

Patience
● Perseverance
● Long-suffering
● Waiting on The Lord (Isaiah 40)

Kindness
● Love put into tangible action.
● Love is an act of the will, Kindness is an act of the hands and feet.
● Where the rubber hits the road

Goodness
● Dictionary.com - Goodness, morality, virtue refer to qualities of character or
conduct that entitle the possessor to approval (of God) and esteem
● Desiring to please God.
● Living by God’s terms and morals.
● Opposing evil.

Faithfulness
● Unchangingness.
● Loyalty
● Truthfulness
● Not deviating from God’s truth

Gentleness
● Restraint of power
● Not weak but meek
● Mercy (withholding deserved punishment)
● Grace (granting undeserved kindness)

Self-Control
● Opposite of impulsive
● Restraint of desires
● Resistance to temptation
