Just Walk On By
Luke 10:25-37
We've all done it.
A piece of paper floats around aimlessly on the floor. Out of place. Eyesore. Begging to be picked up and placed in the nearest trash receptacle.
And yet, we walk on by.
We engage our Jenga skills with our trash by gently (and repeatedly) balancing our refuse on the top while even mashing down the entire heap instead of simply taking the trash out.
It is (symbolically) seeing what needs to be done and knowing (or having) the ability to complete the aforementioned task(s) but choosing to ignore or sadly, do otherwise.
We are admonished to be aware of this type of apathy, spiritually as well.
It is very easy to become dedicated to Church routine, ritual, liturgy, programs, services, groups, etc., but if we forget about the needs of those within the Church, we have indeed missed the mark CHRIST expects of us to attain to.
Pay the tithe or assist one I am well aware of... without air conditioning or maybe food... on a 105 degree day? Stick to religious routine or relieve suffering simply because we care about what GOD does most? People.
Tune in to our 'podcast' edition of The Words of Life Show where we challenge our listening and viewing audience to introspectively examine: do I usually 'walk right on by' that which needs to be (and can be) done (compassion) OR do we simply 'pass by on the other side' of one sorely in need of our assistance?
Priest. Levite. Good Samaritan.
Religious routines or compassionate relief.
Which (of these) are we?
