*PKR Baram's Call for Transparency and People's Rights in Sarawak*
John attended the Baram PKR Branch Annual General Meeting (MATC) on 9/9/2023. He shared some interesting things decided by PKR Baram. Among them, PKR Baram wants to cooperate with the GPS government in Sarawak. However, from what has been observed, GPS is reluctant to accept cooperation (Unity Government) at the state level. There are complaints that there are still longhouses that have not displayed the official photo of the prime minister in their longhouses/villages. There are also government offices in Sarawak that have not/do not display the official photo of the prime minister in government offices. PKR Baram requested that the complaint be accompanied by photographic evidence for further action. Both PKR Baram will oppose GPS in the Sarawak State election in all DUN seats in the upcoming 13th Sarawak PRN, in line with the recent statement by the Premier of Sarawak which stated that there is no seat negotiation with the unity government at the state level. PKR Baram is firm in this matter because all this time PKR Baram has realized that GPS Sarawak has many weaknesses and should be changed. In conjunction with MATC this time, PKR Baram held several forums. Among them is a forum entitled People's rights to determine their respective village heads and people's rights to a clean and healthy environment. PKR Baram is upset with the action of GPS interfering in the matter of the appointment of the village head. Taking the example of some Penan villages in Baram. The Village Head is appointed by the GPS even though in the meeting in the village the majority of the residents have other options. PKR Baram believes that Orang Asal are efficient forest owners and custodians. So Baram PKR urges the government to give a carbon trading license to every longhouse that owns a large NCR land in Baram.
