*Wealth for Whom? Exploring Political Dimensions of Sarawak's Future Wealth Fund*
Gabril commented on the launch of the Sarawak Future Wealth Fund launched by the Premier of Sarawak today, with an initial fund of RM8 billion. Generally, it is the right course of action. But is it politically motivated which will eventually become the material of the GPS campaign, to prove that GPS is a successful party in building wealth for future generations.
According to Gabril, Sarawak is the state with the most poor people in Malaysia, but the state with the most agricultural products. Why can't the state government allocate some money to free poor families in Sarawak from the shackles of poverty. I am also not convinced of the honesty and transparency of GPS government administration in Sarawak. I am not convinced that they will manage these funds transparently and responsibly. For example in the past - ASSAR was established to generate wealth for the people of Sarawak. Finally ASSAR was closed without reasonable explanation. What is the final statement of the ASSAR account. LCDA was established to develop the land of the Sarawak Indigenous/Dayak NCR. But in the end many Sarawakians were cheated and many cases ended up in court. This is among other examples of how GPS bullies the people of Sarawak. Another hot issue last week - related to the Sarawak Premier's son being appointed as an independent Director of BERJAYA Land. Berjaya Land is one of the largest real estate developers in Malaysia. Why was Abang Abdillah Izzarim (son of the Premier of Sarawak) appointed to that position? Is it because he is capable or to make it easier for BERJAYA Land to get projects and contracts in Sarawak. This is a conflict of interest. The children of state officials were appointed to certain positions when their father was the head of the state administration. I am very disappointed with the GPS administration in Sarawak - Gabril said.
