Tok Mudin, A retiree government servant from Betong
*Is Sarawakian Comfort Under the Current Administration Hindering Progress by GPS Government?*
A few days ago Puan Asiah abd Jalil posted on FB provoking the people of Sabah and Sarawak. According to Asiah, if placed to work in Sabah or Sarawak, he would resign within 24 hours. Because Sabah/Sarawak remains poor even after 60 years together in Malaysia, lacking basic facilities, it is difficult to plan a career, plan a family and raise children. For Tok Mudin, what Mrs. Asiah said is the reality in Sarawak. In the main urban centers in Sarawak there are indeed facilities. But 20 kilometers from the city center has seen poverty, poor schools, dilapidated clinics, long houses/villages with no telephone/internet facilities. If this is the case, how do you plan to continue studying? How will children excel in their studies, asked Tok Mudin. Mudin also questioned why the number of specialist teachers in Sarawak is so low. At MRSM Betong for example, almost all teaching staff are junior staff. Betong Hospital still fails to manage births (for mothers aged 35 and over) due to the absence of a specialist doctor, even though it is only 3 hours from Kuching city and 3 hours from Sibu city. Betong Hospital is only able to give basic medicines such as Paracetamol. For Mudin. What Mrs. Asiah said was intended to make the people of Sarawak aware not to depend too much on peninsular Malaysia. Sarawakians should not blame others. But you have to question why the country itself remains poor. Is it because the people of Sarawak are too comfortable under the current administration? Tok Mudin's question.
