Und die vier Jungs von Bell Sparx sind der lebende (ist ja logisch) Beweis dafür. Drei von Ihnen kommen aus den U.S.A. und der vierte Mann kommt aus Deutschland. Mehr als lebendig ist die Musik der Band – das hier vorgestellte Thumbtack frickelt sich mit Biss und Bass nach vorne. Tanzen nicht ausgeschlossen. Autofahren schon gar nicht.
Ich habe den Gitarristen Michael gefragt, ob ich das Liedchen hier podcasten kann:
Michael: “Wir sind geehrt, dass Du Dich für unsere Musik interessierst. Wir alle denken in unserer Band ähnlich über Open Source und GPL und Du bist mehr als willkommen unsere Songs im freemusicpodcast vorzustellen.”
Bell Sparx bestehen aus vier Musiker: Ralph am Schlagzeug, Jens am Bass, Steve am Keyboard und Michael an der Gitarre. Ralph verfolgt tatsächliche eine professionelle musikalische Karriere, während die anderen ihr Geld mit Gelegenheitsjobs verdienen.
Torsten: “Was hat Euch bewegt Eure Songs unter die “Creative Commons – Attribution” zu stellen? Warum habt Ihr nicht eine strengere Lizenz gewählt wie die “Creative Commons – Attribution – No Commercial Use – Share Alike”?
Michael: “Wir haben die “Creative Commons – Attribution” und keine engere Lizenz gewählt, weil Musik für uns ein Geschenk ist, dass wir gerne mit anderen teilen möchten. Ausserdem bilden wir uns ein, kreativ genug zu sein, wenn es darum geht, neue Ideen zu haben, so dass wir eigentlich immer neue Musik machen können und für uns kein Mangel entsteht, wenn wir unsere Musik verschenken.
Natürlich würden wir gerne irgendwann auch etwas Geld mit Musik verdienen, falls sich ein großes allgemeines Interesse an unserer Musik einstellt. Aber eigentlich hat das Geld für uns keine Priorität. Wir sind einfach nur froh zu musizieren und freuen uns noch mehr, wenn die Leute unsere Musik mögen und sich für die Open Source Idee interessieren.”
Jau, das ist so.

The four guys of Bell Sparx are the living (of course) proof that not only commercial but also free music can be made in transcontinental ways. Three of them are from the States and the forth is from good old Germany. And more than vivid is the music of the band. Thumbtack, the song introduced here has a lot of bite and bass, so whilst listening to this song you might find yourself suddenly dancing.
I asked Michael, the guitar player of Bell Sparx, if I may introduce their song Thumbtack here.
Michael: “We are honored that you are interested in our music. All of us in the band also feel the same way about open source and GPL and you are more than welcome to upload our song to the freemusicpodcast.”
Bell Sparx is: Ralph on the Drums, Jens as the Bass, Steve plays the Keys and Michael is on the Guitar. Whereas Ralph has a professional career in music the other three have day jobs.
Torsten: “What was your motivation to license your songs under the “Creative Commons – Attribution”? Why havent you chosen a more restrictive license like the “Creative Commons – Attribution – No Commercial Use – Share Alike”?
Michael: “We have decided to publish under the “Creative Commons – Attribution” and not a more strict form because making music for us is a gift that we would like to share with others. We also feel that we are quite creative in generating lots of new ideas.
Of course at some point, when a large interest in our music would be present, we would like to be compensated, but it is not a high priority. We are just happy making the music and even more excited when people such as yourself show interest in the music and in the idea of Open Source.”
Yes, Sir. That is so.
