Bereits im Jahr 2003 haben die Jungs aus Springfield, Missouri ihr Album Steppin Out Of Babylon für ihre Fans unter die Creative Commons Attribution gestellt und im Internet Archive veröffentlicht. Zu dieser Zeit bestand die Band aus nichts als Riddim Guitar, Bass, Drums, Percussion und der wunderbaren Stimme von Sänger Ras Josh.
Schon nach ein paar weiteren Sessions gab es eine Zugabe: Das zweite Album More Herbs For The Youth wurde ebenfalls unter der CC BY im Internet Archive veröffentlicht.
In der Zwischenzeit wurde die Band um Keyboards und Saxophon erweitert, die Philosophie der Band blieb jedoch die selbe: Reggae, positive Vibes, RastafarI und spreading the message.
Da die Jah Roots nicht nur fleißige Studiomusiker sind, sondern auch touren wie die Weltmeister, gibt es im Internet Archive mittlerweile eine richtige Sammlung weiterer wunderbarer Alben und Live-Aufnahmen von Ihnen zu hören. Die meisten davon stehen unter einer der Creative Commons Lizenzen. Wieso eigentlich?
Jah Roots: “Wir verteilen unsere Musik kostenlos, weil wir sie unter die Leute bringen wollen.”
FM: “Die CC BY, unter der viele Eurer Songs stehen, ist eine eher liberale Lizenz. Habt Ihre denn keine Angst, dass jemand Eure Musik klaut?”
Jah Roots: “Niemand klaut unsere Musik oder er bekommt Ärger hahaha! Nein, darüber machen wir uns keine Sorgen.”

And because the Jah Roots are not only having fun in the studio but because they are also touring like there is no tomorrow, you can find a small collection of more wonderful albums and live recordings in the internet archive. Most of them are under one of the Creative Commons licenses. Why is that actually?
Jah Roots: “We pass out our music for free because we want it to get out there.”
FM: “The CC BY under wich many of your songs are published is a rather liberal license. Aren’t you afraid that people will be stealing your music?”
Jah Roots: “No one steals our music or they will be in trouble hahaha! No, we are not worried.”
