Description

In the small river town of Port Haddock, the old hand-pulled ferry across the Blackwater River was run by a man named Elias Croft. He never missed a crossing, never took a day off, and never once let a passenger see his face in full daylight. Luna's uncle, a retired fisherman, used that ferry every Tuesday evening. This is the story of what he saw on the tenth of November, just after sunset — when the water was still and the mist lay low. Elias called to him from the far shore, but when the boat reached the middle of the river, the lantern light caught the surface of the water. And there was no reflection. Not in the river. Not in the glass of the lantern. Not in the eyes of the man who reached for the rope. Quiet, slow, and deeply unsettling — this episode stays with you like the cold that creeps up from water you can't see.
