If you're like me, you always look for ways to achieve goals more easily. \"There's gotta be a hack or secret for this!\" But I've learned that it's often more important to focus on slow-and steady improvement and development. It's not always fun, but a disciplined approach is the best way to develop yourself and create the life you want to live. Today, we're going to talk about the grind and why it's so important to have self-discipline. The grind is what separates the amateurs from the professionals, the dabblers from those who are truly dedicated to their craft - and to living a better life that they actually wake up and feel inspired by.
It's putting in the long hours, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year – even when you don't feel like it – that allows you to achieve mastery in anything. And actually, mastery is an asymptote - it's that line from math class that gets closer and closer to one of the axes but never actually touches it.
To be successful at anything, you have to train your mind and body to do the things that will serve you in the future - not just what feels good now. Why? Because without discipline and dedication there is no progress; only stagnation and a whole lot of frustration.
So if you want to be a writer, or an artist, or musician, or anything else – know that it's going to take a lot of hard work - and you can't just show up when you're feeling \"inspired.\" Improving your self control isn't a one-time thing. But also know that it's worth it, because the rewards are great. You get to do what you love for a living - at a very high level - and there is very little that's more fulfilling than that.
Listen to the rest of the episode for my mindset around how to improve and build more self-discipline by taking the techniques (grinding) from RPGs and putting them into your real-life!
