Description

The Emor ("Tell them") section commences with the specific regulations about the Cohanim ("Miniatros"), the Cohen Gadol ("High Cohen"), and temple service. A Cohen is prohibited from becoming ritually impure through contact with a corpse, except in the case of the death of a close relative. A Cohen may not marry a divorced woman or a woman with a promiscuous past. The Cohen Gadol may marry only a maiden. A Cohen with a physical deformity is prohibited from serving in the Holy Temple. Similarly, a deformed animal may not be offered as an offering.
Those who are constantly seeking to fill an existential void live in a state of constant lack and then connect with aspects of death in all areas of their lives. For this reason, the Kohen was instructed to refrain from all aspects of death. Consequently, some individuals are content without material possessions, romantic partners, or geographical mobility to achieve fulfillment.
