Alison: So, Greg, what’s your opinion about the new construction work?
Gregory: Mmmm, I think that building a new mall is going to affect the local businesses, it is going to reduce their sales, they provide jobs to lots of people who depend on what they sell!
Alison: Yes, I totally agree with that. Unemployment is definitely going to affect the locals, nowadays people have a better quality of life than before, so it will definitely make a big difference. However, I’m pretty sure that the owners of the local businesses will have to look for new ways to innovate in the market. What do you think, Gregory?
Gregory: In my opinion, it could have a positive impact. But I’m absolutely certain that the competition in the market will be huge, people would be amazed by the infrastructure of the mall, have you seen it? It is wonderful!
Alison: Yes, you’re right up to a point, but you have to take into account that from the architectural point of view, tourism could have an incredibly positive impact. The town will have one of the most beautiful malls in the country, so it could be a way to attract tourism to the area. I feel some tourists would visit the local business first, and the money they spend would benefit local businesses.
Gregory: That may be true, but maybe the food, restaurants, souvenir shops, and stores could look a bit more attractive and modern to tourists.
Alison: Come on! I’m not sure about that, to be honest. I know a lot of people who would always buy local!
