We get a little bit inside baseball when Andrew and Rob discuss the differences in contract brewing vs Alternating Proprietorship (AP). The Guild worked through several issues during the last few years to bring this benefit to our AZ breweries. What does it mean for them and for you?
AP allows 2 or more licensed breweries, distilleries, or wineries to operate under the same roof, sharing some space and equipment. This will give breweries a great number of opportunities to partner together to grow and more easily dissolve relationships while retaining licenses. It may also open the possibility of having packaging manufacturers use AP to assist breweries with packaging. It should be of benefit to those that want to own a brewery/distillery.
AP has many advantages over contract brewing, especially for those that think contract brewing is an easier, less expensive path to opening a brewery. Anyone contracting a beer may not realize that they have no legal standing when it comes to transporting, distributing, or selling the beer once it is made. Typically, that requires a retail license or a relationship with a distributor.
We hope once you listen, you'll see that AP benefits the consumer and the state's financial outlook.
