Description

We recorded this episode from the Barry M Goldwater ham radio exhibit under his call sign K7UGA at the Arizona Historical Society Museum in Tucson prior to Baja Beer Festival.

We're excited to be a part of the opening of a new exhibit that will tell the tale of the history of beer, wine, and spirits in Arizona.

We sat down with Exhibit Curator Vanessa Fajardo and Event Specialist Tamara Mack from AHS to get get some background on the event and the fascinating museum.

We also spoke to Katie Bailey, the owner and publisher of Tucson Guide https://tucsonguide.com/ to share thoughts about being a tourist in your own city and rediscovering the people, places, and stories that make Tucson such a compelling place. (We did this all ahead of Time Magazine naming Tucson one of 2023's World's Greatest Places.)

Have you ever wandered a museum while sipping wine, whiskey or beer? Join the Arizona Historical Society, Local First Arizona, Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Tucson Foodie, Tucson Guide, and Arizona Craft Brewers Guild for exclusive sips and tastes of the Southwest, live entertainment, and admission to the entire Arizona History Museum as part of an exciting exhibit reveal!

Award-winning wineries, breweries, distilleries and eateries await you. This is one “happy hour” you won’t want to miss.

Drinking locally has been a tradition in this part of the world for millennia, starting with the early indigenous cultures of this region. As you walk through this exhibit, you will learn the history of locally made alcohol in Arizona, including how plants with over 10,000 years of history are still in use today, that we have German immigrants to thank for beer, and how 1970s soil research made Arizona into a booming wine state.

This year-long exhibit also focuses on the southern Arizona alcohol industry of today and the importance of local distillers, brewers, and winemakers within the state. By buying from local distilleries, breweries, and wineries, individuals help foster industry growth, save water, and get specialty products with local ingredients that can only be found in Arizona.
