On this episode, Andrew and Rob chat with Kevin Holsapple, the author of Beer Hiking Southern Rockies. Kevin, a resident of Northern New Mexico, explains the unique concept of his book which pairs hiking trails in Arizona and other states with nearby breweries. The discussion delves into urban hikes in Phoenix, the challenges of a difficult Grand Canyon hike, and how to stay hydrated on the trail. Andrew and Kevin also explore the importance of face-to-face interactions in the craft beer community and debate the true meaning of a "hike."
Beer Hiking Southern Rockies is a book by Kevin Holsapple and Yitka Winn that features 54 hikes and microbreweries in the four-corner states of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. Each hike is paired with a local craft beer from a nearby brewery or brewpub. The book also includes notes on the beer's appearance, aroma, and taste, as well as an inside look at the brewing process.
Kevin Holsapple is a retired tourism professional with decades of experience in New Mexico, living near Santa Fe. He is also a travel and beer hiking blogger at primepassages.com. His blog, Prime Passages, is a collection of articles and stories aimed at inspiring lovers of beer, hiking, and travel.
