In the year of 1926, Mu Wan Qing brings her mom's ashes back to Shanghai for burial. While travelling, she was held hostage by Tan Xuan Ling for witnessing a murder while on the cruise ship back to Shanghai. Tan Xuan Lin was planning a coup to force the powerful Military Governor Xu Bo Jun to appoint him as the Defence Commander of Shanghai. Xuan Lin found out that Wan Qing is the daughter of the city's riches tycoon and saw her as an ideal candidate to raise money for his army.
Mu Wan Qing on the other hand have agende of her own to reclaim her position in her family after being away for 10 years. In order to do that, she agreed to cooperate with Tan Xuan Lin.
As Tan Xuan Lin tried to strengthen his position and maintain his army in Shanghai, he faced multiple bstacles from Xu Bo Jun. In the process of helping each other out, Mu Wan Qing's family secret was unveiled as well as Tan Xuan Lin's.
