“Be authentically yourself.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, many of us have had to pivot or make adjustments in our work life. This affected almost every profession, not just commercial real estate. We talked about the Great Resignation in one of our previous episodes and how that also forced us to change.

Last week, we had a great conversation on Clubhouse about pivoting, changing business practices, and adapting to the new work environment we found ourselves in since the start of the pandemic.

“Think differently about the times where we can't operate business as usual. What are the things that we can do to step into that void, show up and be of service?“

At the beginning of our conversation, we talk about the processes that changed in our businesses during the pandemic. Many business owners adopted new practices, systems, and technology.

Here are a few pivots that came up in our conversation:

• Using social media more often and more strategically than before. 
• Including younger generations in the business through social media. Working with interns and opening up the CRE world to gen Z.
• Creating online communities that lead to a wider variety of collaborations.
• Having the right mindset and realizing that CRE is a long game. Learning how to deal with uncertainty and preparing for a better future.

“We're meant to stand out, we're not meant to blend in”

Later in the conversation, the group shares their best pieces of advice on how to pivot and take a business in new directions in these unprecedented times.

• Always be open to learning. Look for mentors and communities that could help you.
• Be patient and think long-term. 
• If you’re changing companies, make sure to leave on a good note and keep up the relationships.
• Be yourself and don’t be afraid to show your personality. Lean into your strengths and eventually, you will succeed in your new endeavors.
