Welcome to the Growing Careers & Companies Podcast with Allison S. Weiss. Today, we share a simple exercise to help you build your capacity for storytelling. So many of us are anxious about telling our story or answering the inevitable question about where we come from or how we grew up. The following exercise will help you to answer these questions and communicate your story more authentically.

“These are all of the things that make you unique - these little life stories.”
Whether we're trying to grow your career or your company, storytelling is one of those threads that run through our lives. Getting better at uncovering our stories and what makes us unique and learning how to communicate that authentically is a great use of time. Authenticity is one of the pillars of our Growing Careers & Companies Framework which you can download here.
This is an exercise that you can do at home with a piece of large drawing paper and a pencil or in front of a whiteboard with markers.
Let’s start by thinking about your life journey as a path. Draw a winding, twisting, and turning line that represents the journey from the beginning of your life to now and off into the future. Make sure the lines don’t cross.
After creating this path of your unique journey, hopefully, you understand the landscape of your life better and will be able to communicate all these different milestones, trials, and tribulations better.
All of these stories could be used to connect with and relate to people on a daily basis and build valuable relationships.
We hope today's episode was deeply impactful and it reminded you of some of the beautiful things that you've experienced in your life and some of the more challenging moments that you have conquered and overcome. We’d love to hear from you.
