Today, the 17th November 2022, is Children’s Grief Awareness Day.
Having lost two of his sons, which in turn left four of his grandchildren without a parent, this is a cause particularly close to our Director/Founder Peter Burke.
To recognise this day we welcomed Nikki Dunne, Operations Manager at Wombats Wish, to the Fine Answers Podcast.
Wombats Wish, is a Geelong not-for-profit organisation that supports children who have experienced the death of a parent. Their mission is to support children and young people after the death of their parent/carer, with outreach encompassing the entire state of Victoria, Australia.
We discuss the origin of Wombats Wish, its recent growth under Nikki’s stewardship, the gratitude held for Ambassadors Travis Boak, Tom Hawkins, Emily Mannix and Brian Cook in raising its profile, and most importantly how we all can support childhood grief, and the 1 in 20 children in Australia that have lost a parent!
Peter Burke has recently joined the board at Wombats Wish and in collaboration with Burke Britton clients and Future Generation Fund has been able to provide funding of more than $40,000 since 2020 towards Wombat’s Wish’s flagship program which delivers weekend camps for children and the surviving parent/carer. All services are proudly offered at no cost to families.
