Based in Geelong, Kids Plus Foundation was founded in 2003 by parents of children living with neurological conditions, therapists, and concerned community members in response to the gap in access to quality and regular goal focused therapy for children with cerebral palsy, stroke or brain injury.
Today Kids Plus Foundation provides specialist physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, music therapy and social work services to babies, children, and young adults with neurological physical disabilities as well as providing education, sporting, and employment pathways.
Shaun shares his background and passion for philanthropy, human rights, community, and advocacy for those less fortunate. From his appointment as CEO in 2014 Shaun has overseen an enormous transformation in the scale and methods of facilitating and providing support to children in need, culminating most recently with completion of a purpose-built specialty facility on the grounds of Deakin University Geelong and the establishment of the Kids+ Scholarship Program.
We discuss the origins of Burke Britton’s involvement with Kids+, beginning in 2011 with Directors Peter and Jay Burke trekking Kokoda to raise funds, to 2022 where Peter Burke has joined the Kids+ board and in partnership with Burke Britton clients and the Future Generation Program donated more than $250,000 to Kids+.
More than money, Shaun encourages us to think about how we, as a community and individuals, can remove the barriers of participation for education, employment, and sport for all of those with a disability.
