Traumatic life events are often the catalyst for real social change and the stories of women emerging from them, in spite of them, and because of them are inspirational, impactful, and life giving. Amber Kovarik, Senior Loan Officer at Guild Mortgage experienced the tragic loss of her sister, Shannon, at just 32 years of age from from an aggressive form of cancer. Leveraging what she has learned as a mom and wife, in the corporate world and her decades of leadership experience, Amber made the decision to use her sister’s passing as a catalyst to make a difference in other people’s lives and found herself well positioned through the relationships she had intentionally built and the community she had passionately created to bring Shannon’s Giving to life in 2018. Serving more than 200 families in 2021, Shannon’s Giving provides Thanksgiving meals to families who are impacted by cancer and through her work both personally and professionally, Amber’s journey is proof that what may seem like a small act of kindness to you can make a massive impact on the world.
