In part two of this multi part series, Charlie continues his conversation with Jonathan Ishee, his former business partner and one of Broad River's original co-founders.
The two deconstruct the opening of Broad River’s first store starting with ideation to store opening through the first year.
Jonathan riffs on some of the key, early relationships, such as with Dale Hall of New South Properties (still the River’s top real estate advisor and our Commercial Real Estate Broker), Ashley Furniture, business partner Jackson Moore, as well as some of the key early employees.
The two also reminisce on how they started working together (even before Broad River, back when they both lived in Jackson, Mississippi). They discuss the importance of location and timing when opening a new store, and they share some of the lucky moments in time that led to some great store openings (one involved subleasing a former Best Buy!).
