In today's episode, Charlie offers a deep dive into the integral role of core values, not just in establishing a company's culture, but in steering its path toward sustained success. Charlie provides context in explaining how Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Core Values work together and each serve a unique role. Purpose, as the heart of the business, provides the organizational WHY. Vision offers the aspirational GPS coordinates for WHERE (future direction) a company is going or WHO (identity) it wishes to be in the future. Mission then is WHAT a company does and foundationally supports the Vision. Then the Core Values represent the behaviors or guiding principles for HOW a company acts and treats others.
Charlie unpacks Broad River's five core values:
- Integrity
- Personal Excellence
- Customer Satisfaction
- Collaboration (which was originally Teamwork but then changed to break down silos)
- Innovation
Core Values provide the guardrails to shape organizational behavior and a company's culture. They are the backdrop for how people treat each other within the organization as well as outside of the organization with customers, vendors, partners, and other organizations.
Broad River's Core Values have served as a cornerstone within the Company for several years. They have served the Company well in communicating the guidining principles that are most important to its Memory Makers. However, there are several other potential values that have emerged over the years that the Company has come to adopt, embrace, and be known for. To that end, Charlie discusses what some of these potential new core values could be and suggests that the current leadership team may be reviewing and studying the existing Core Values in 2024 to determine if any edits or additions should be made.
Tune in to gain valuable insights and perspectives on how these foundational principles resonate within Broad River Retail's journey.
