Professor Mariame Sy discusses growing up speaking Pulaar, Wolof and French in multilingual Senegal. She describes how she became interested in linguistics, and eventually became a teacher of Wolof at Columbia. She goes into detail about how she teaches Wolof, and how she views this teaching as a Decolonial enterprise. She discusses how she identifies specific concepts within Wolof culture, and helps students to build a detailed understanding of those concepts over the course of several years.
