This week Lucie talks to legendary Korean-British pianist, composer, conductor and comedian Hyung-Ki Joo who is also half of the world famous classical-music-comedy duo Igudesman & Joo. Hyung-Ki has arranged music for Billy Joel, performed with John Malkovitch, written works for the New York Philharmonic, and has had several viral YouTube videos of him in concert. We talk about what it was like growing up as the only Korean family in Norwich, England, dealing with racism, going to music boarding school when he was 8, imposter syndrome, how he decided Classical music should be funny, and why he loves music more than anyone else in the world.
