Today we will dive into the topic of Gut health for your dogs. 70% of the immune system is housed in the gut, so we need to support the gut for healthy and sick dogs. We can only partially cover this topic in one episode, not even two. We could have an episode  just on probiotics, even prebiotics and their benefits. That is  We will have Rebecca Rose from In clover back on our show to discuss gut health more with us next week. In the next episode we will dive more into the science behind adding prebiotics and digestive enzymes. So many ailments and issues we see in dogs today can be linked to the gut. Some things we are going to cover in this episode are: Diet change, Ways to repair the gut, and identifying the problem. 

• First Emily and Toni talk about identifying the problem and whether or not your dog has GI symptoms before or after eating. This is relatively easy to identify. Do they have gas or throw up on an empty stomach? Then we might want to add some soothing supplements or food to your dog's diet to soothe the gut lining. Toni and Emily expand on what to look for and how to approach the problem your pet might be experiencing.
• Then Toni and Emily begin to talk about the difference between pro and prebiotics and why they might help your dog with these issues!! There are different supplements to add and ways to repair the gut through supplements and diet.Probiotics are live microorganisms that exist in your stomach. They are the good bacterias that help keep the harmful bacteria from causing harm to your dog's system.
• Finally Toni and Emily talk about diet change and how feeding your dog can help or hurt the gut. Any food options that are higher in bioavailability, aka less processed will be easier for the body to absorb and put less stress on these organs that we have talked about to digest and break down.
