I speak with Cari Rohe, former firefighter, women's health nurse, athlete, mother and wife of firefighter and SWAT medic, Lieutenant Travis Rohe about the challenges of being the spouse of a front line worker. Cari shares how she and her husband have overcome the inherent difficulties of balancing shift work, a young family, her own career, and the devastating loss of their daughter. Cari started a local support group for spouses of front line workers and she discusses the positive impact of sharing space and talking with others who are culturally competent. She also reveals how adapting from Plan A and Plan B sometimes falls apart, and how by implementing a "Plan Me," and prioritizing time for herself, she began healing her own mental trauma.
