I speak with Rob Glassmire, father, Marine Corp veteran, and Garfield County Coroner about the challenges of death investigations in the field. Rob describes how the coroner's office must respond at all hours day and night to often austere, grim and emotionally charged environments. Rob and his team work behind the scenes, after first responders and medical teams have finished their work. We discuss how viewing the patients with humanity and always through the lens of their grieving families helps alleviate the trauma of witnessing sometimes gruesome, tragic deaths. Rob shares his advice for young men and women entering the first responder fields including remembering to slow down, spend time with coworkers outside of the job and take good care of themselves.
