And here we go with what is one of my favorite movies. This movie was a huge part of my coming out story as a "there but for the grace of God go I" comparison. I love this 2003 movie because it gave me hope for my future when I was worried about what it meant to be queer and religious.
This is a fairly heavy episode because I do talk about religious trauma and because suicide does come up as a part of the movie. If either of these are triggers for you, please listen with care. As always, feel free to reach out to me with questions or comments. You can email queerlypopular@gmail.com or follow the podcast on Twitter or Instagram (@queerlypopular). Please feel free to DM me if you need to talk. I will always listen. There is also a little swearing in the episode.
If you need someone with training to talk to, you can go to the Trevor Projects' website or call 1-866-468-7386.
Above all, please know that I believe, and believe with all my heart, that you are a child of God and that She Loves you exactly as you are. And I love you too.
Here are some vidoes and songs I mentioned in the episode:
Song- Man on a Mission
Song- Hymn for Those Left Behind
Song- Abide With Me
Song/Scene- Tuesday 3 AM
Song/Scene- Another Beautiful Day
Scene- Aaron Returns to LA
Scene- Aaron and Lila Outside the Hospital
Scene- Aaron and Christian Outside the Airport
Scene- Aaron and Christian's First Kiss
Our next episode will be about Red, White, and Royal Blue. Until then!
