One of the things that I do as a behavioral specialist is to help people understand why they do what they do, and one of those things is overeating. Statistics from nutritionists can be helpful, but they don't work for everyone because of the conflict between math and the mind.
Our thoughts are uniquely our own. They drive how we feel, and how we feel drives what we do. That's exactly why what we think is much more important than data. Before anything else, we need to work on dropping shame, and we need to understand the three reasons why we overeat: physical, habitual, and emotional.
We're supposed to live and enjoy our lives, not be obsessed over food and the size of our bodies, but if you don't understand the cause of a problem, you can't change it. That's exactly why thoughtwork is so important and so worth teaching and learning.
