In episode 32 astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield discuss the radical coupling between Mexico’s greatest artists, painter Frida Kahlo and muralist Diego Rivera. These two were equally talented and while their relationship was deeply passionate it was also very turbulent.
Looking into Frida’s chart we find a prideful Leo Rising, telling us she savored and craved the limelight and also had a generous heart, while her watery Neptune/Sun conjunction perfectly described her dream-like artistic style and ability to let her imagination run free. She also had a strong stellium in the sign of Cancer, telling us that family and emotional safety were very important to her.
Meanwhile, Diego’s chart shows us a well-traveled and cultured Sun/Venus conjunction in Sagittarius, explaining the big persona he embraced literally and figuratively, while his Mercury/Pluto contact revealed a hyper fixation and focus on his work.
This relationship had a 21-year age gap which reflects square Uranus’ in their comparison chart, telling us there was much upheaval, and a distaste for stagnation of any kind! This square also explains their passion and ability to fight together in support of the radical political rebirth of Mexico, but didn't necessarily lend itself to a sustainable, solid relationship.
One of the great highlights of their connection were their matching moons, exalted in Taurus, which felt like a homecoming for them both and created powerful affection and sensuality. They also shared matching Mars placements in Capricorn, meaning they both understood and respected each other's work ethic and commitment to their craft.
