Season II, 6 - Episode 17:

We will once again - as we did in Venice - give the word to Morten Ranum, because we do not only intent to bring report from Documenta Fifteen in Kassel, but also compare Kassel to Biennale di Venezia, although it might seem an impossible mission, because the two exhibitions are very different.

In Kassel they are dissolving the idea of contemporary art, while in Venezia they continue to wordship art as we have known it – as artworks, pieces of art you can visit and see and then leave again.

It was our intention to continue to read Blanchot, but it was not possible. We were interrupted by bell hooks and her all about love – maybe symbolic, because bell hooks seems to be more relevant in Kassel than Blanchot would have been.

Kassel continues where they left in 2017. Reaching out to somewhere in the world, last time it was Athens, this time Jakarta in Indonesia. It is not unusual for Documenta to make links to places outside Gernany. In 1997 it was Nigeria. Just as Documenta very often have had a political agenda, from the beginning in 1955.

Vi overlader igen ordet til Morten Ranum, som vi også gjordfe det i Venedig. Det er nemlig hensigten ikke blot at bringe en reportage fra Documenta Fifteen i Kassel, men også sammenligne Kassel med Venedig Biennalen, selvom udstillingerne nok er så forskellige, at det bliver vanskeligt.

I Venedig fortsætter biennalen med at tilbede samtidskunsten, som vi har kendt til den længe – som kunstværker man kan ankomme og opleve og se for derefter at forlade dem igen. Derimod opløser Ducumenta samtidskunsten – måske for at vi om 10-20 år, kan genopfinde den eller finde noget andet. Kassel er et community af sociale processer, som man kan ankomme og deltage i – ikke en kunstudstilling.

Det var vores mening at fortsætte med at læse Blanchot, men vi blev afbrudt af bell hooks og hendes all about love – det forekommer næsten symbolsk, fordi kærlighed og bell hooks skulle vise sig at være mere vedkommende i Kassel end Blanchot ville have været.

Denne gang fortsætter Kassel, hvor de slap i 2017 med at række ud til andre steder i verden. Sidste gang var det Athen, denne gang Jakarta i Indonesien. Det er ikke unormalt for Documenta at etablere sådanne forbindelser til steder udenfor Tyskland. I 1997 var det Nigeria.  Documenta meget ofte haft en politisk dagsorden, helt fra begyndelsen i 1955 har det været en del af institutionens DNA.
