Description

To conclude Pride Month, Camilla and Tobias offer you their interview with Dr. Iris Romero, who is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Dean for Diversity and Inclusion for the Biological Sciences Division, for this installment of D&I Diaries.

As our LGBTQ Pride Month special episode and guest, Dr. Romero shares with us how her jobs of being Dean for Diversity & Inclusion and an Ob/Gyn are inherently integrated, why representation matters, and how the power of proximity to your community creates a deeper investment. Tune into this episode to learn about how Dr. Romero began her journey to medicine, found her family of choice in Woodlawn, and views her DEI framework as complex and nuanced.

To learn more about Dr. Romero and her academic/DEI work, visit her BSD Faculty webpage here.

As mentioned in the episode, Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson is a book chronicling the humble beginnings of the Equal Justice Institute in Montgomery, Alabama.
