I am in favor of writing a business plan, even if you don't plan on raising any money, even if it's just two or three pages because you can show it to potential customers friends, experts, people who are in the space and ask them. Do you like this idea? Is this a good idea? What are the flaws in this business plan and they will help you validate the idea? Use your customers friends, anyone in your network to see if it's a good idea or not.
