On December 6, 1989 a gunman entered École Polytechnique stating he was "fighting feminism" and opened fire. The massacre targeted women in the school over a 20 minute period of terror. The anniversary of the massacre has since been declared as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women aka White Ribbon Day.
