On Tuesday, ICE agents accidentally shot a deputy U.S. marshal while trying to shoot at a TikTok user. The federal officers used a targeted traffic stop to arrest Carlitos Ricardo Parias, known as Richard LA on TikTok, where he has over 100,000 followers and works as a citizen journalist documenting ICE operations. Similar to a recent shooting in Chicago, the arrest began with ICE agents using their vehicles to block the vehicle of the person they were looking for, a maneuver that is not part of standard procedure. The report from ICE claims that Parias then tried to use his vehicle as a weapon, which, also like the Chicago incident, is disputed by eye witnesses. The report claims that Parias tried to drive away, and the evidence provided for this is that the wheels of his car produced smoke. However, witnesses say that the smoke came from tear gas fired by the officers. The agent then broke the window of the vehicle and began shooting, striking Parias in the elbow. One of the bullets bounced off of a surface and struck a US Marshall in the hand. Parias has been charged with assault on a federal officer.
