The Biden administration has refused to fulfill a promise it made during the presidential campaigns that would have limited its military support of Israel. On October 13th, Biden announced that Israel would be required to allow humanitarian aid to enter into Gaza within 30 days, and if Israel did not comply, then the US would restrict its military support. On Tuesday, thirty days after the announcement, a group of major humanitarian groups announced that Israel has refused to meet any of the conditions set forth by Biden in the October 13th letter, and that in fact Israel's actions have "dramatically worsened the situation on the ground, particularly in Northern Gaza." In a press briefing on Tuesday, US State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel said, "I certainly don't have a change in U.S. policy to announce today." Before a meeting with Israeli politician Isaac Herzog on Tuesday morning, a reporter asked President Biden, "do you think we can get a hostage deal by the end of your term?," to which Biden replied, "Do you think you can keep from getting hit in the head with a camera behind you?"
