The nonprofit organization War Child Alliance has published a study detailing the emotional suffering of children in Gaza. In June, War Child Alliance funded a study by the Community Training Center for Crisis Management in Gaza which surveyed over 500 households. Among the results were that 96 percent of children in Gaza feel that their death is imminent, 79 percent suffer from reoccurring nightmares, and nearly half of the children said they wished to die. Children also suffer from aggression, withdrawal, and pervasive anxiety. The study also found that nearly one in four families are headed by a child 16 or younger. Helen Pattinson, CEO of War Child Alliance in the UK, said, "The international community must act now before the child mental health catastrophe we are witnessing embeds itself into multi-generational trauma, the consequences of which the region will be dealing with for decades to come. A ceasefire must be the immediate first step to allow War Child and other agencies to effectively respond to the intense psychological damage children are experiencing."
